Microbiological Testing

Microbiological Cosmetic Analysis

Cosmetic products come into direct contact with sensitive areas such as skin, hair, and the eye area, which is why their microbiological safety is of great importance. The presence of undesirable microorganisms in these products can lead to infections, allergic reactions, and a reduction in shelf life. For this reason, microbiological tests are an indispensable part of cosmetic production processes.

What is the purpose of microbiological analyses?

Microbiological testing of cosmetic products allows for the determination of the following:

  • Whether the product contains pathogenic microorganisms (e.g., E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa),
  • the total microbial count of bacteria, yeasts, and molds,
  • the microbiological safety of the product after manufacturing,
  • the efficacy of the preservative system.

Which products should be tested?

It is recommended to test all cosmetic products that are susceptible to microbiological contamination and contain water. Examples include:

  • Creams, Lotions
  • Shampoo, Shower Gel
  • Make-up Products
  • Eye Area Products
  • Baby Care Products
